Chelsea LaGrange was named president of the Lucerne Valley Unified School District’s Board of Trustees during the annual board reorganization portion of the monthly school board meeting on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Previously the board’s vice-president, Ms. LaGrange took over the presidency from Jessica Risler, who led the five-member school board for two years. Ms. Risler conducted Thursday’s meeting while Ms. LaGrange will take over during next month’s regular meeting, which will be held on January 11th at the Johnson Valley Community Center. Jason Hansen was named the new vice-president, and Tom Courtney (who was unable to attend the recent meeting) will serve as board clerk.

Board members congratulated Ms. LaGrange, who also has served as president of the Lucerne Valley Museum Association, is involved in other community matters, and has children who attend Lucerne Valley schools. Jim Harvey, who previously served as board president several times, credited LaGrange’s willingness to learn and step up as a leader.

“It’s the spirit of what we said we’d do,” Mr. Harvey said. “We’re all trained, and we’re all good at what we do. We’re a very fortunate board that anyone of us is able to step up.”

Harvey also complimented Ms. Risler for her devotion and hard work as board president. “Jessica, you did an amazing job the last couple years,” he said.
