Retirement Benefits

Planning Today for Your Future

Planning for retirement is an important part of your overall financial well-being. Lucerne Valley Unified School District employees participate in retirement programs based on their position and eligibility.

Whether retirement is many years away or right around the corner, understanding your retirement benefits and available resources can help you make informed decisions and feel more prepared for the future.

Employees considering retirement are encouraged to begin planning well in advance of their anticipated retirement date. Please contact Human Resources when preparing to retire so we can assist with District-related matters such as benefits, final employment information, and continuation of applicable coverage.

CalSTRS (Certificated Employees)

Eligible certificated employees participate in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

CalSTRS provides retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to California’s public school educators. Your retirement benefit is based on factors such as your age at retirement, years of service credit, and final compensation.

Employees are encouraged to periodically review their CalSTRS account, beneficiary information, service credit, and retirement estimates by going to https://my.calstrs.com/NeospinMSSPRD/wfmLogin.aspx  and creating an employee login.

CalPERS (Classified Employees)

Eligible classified employees participate in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

CalPERS provides retirement and other benefits to eligible California public employees. Retirement benefits are generally determined using factors such as your retirement formula, age at retirement, service credit, and final compensation.

Employees are encouraged to regularly review their myCalPERS account at www.mycalpers.ca.gov and make sure their beneficiary and other important information remains current.

Supplemental Retirement Savings

Your CalPERS or CalSTRS pension is an important part of retirement planning, but employees may also choose to save additional money for retirement through voluntary supplemental retirement plans available to District employees.

403(b) and/or 457(b) Plans

These plans allow eligible employees to voluntarily contribute a portion of their earnings toward retirement. Depending on the plan, contributions may be made on a pre-tax and/or Roth basis.

Employees interested in supplemental retirement savings should review the District’s available plan information, approved providers, contribution limits, fees, and investment options before enrolling.
