Kayden Davis and Kristy Klaus who lost their lives tragically in a traffic collision on Highway 247 in April of 2022 were honored and their jerseys retired during the Lady Mustangs’ Volleyball Team Senior Night presentation on October 12, 2023. The event took place at the Sgt. Brian Walker Memorial Gymnasium at Lucerne Valley Middle High School.

Lucerne Valley Volleyball Head Coach Amanda Nichols and Coach Sarah Courtney presented a bouquet of flowers along with a framed jersey to each of the families while Co-Athletic Director Kevin Barda read remembrances. Kayden and Kristy were beloved teammates who would have graduated with the LVHS Class of 2024.

The team later gathered mid-court for a moment of silence and prayer in remembrance of the girls before playing their game against Joshua Springs. Attendees of the event were emotionally affected by the ceremony, many in tears.

Earlier, the team’s current seniors were honored during the annual Senior Night celebrations. They are Itzel Ramirez, Serenity Petrol and Shyann Kerestessy.
