Lucerne Valley, CA — After initial reports of a potential closure, the Lucerne Valley Unified School District is proud to announce that the Lucerne Valley State Preschool will remain open for the 2025–26 school year. This decision follows a wave of community concern and a renewed commitment to collaboration between LVUSD and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS).
The preschool, which serves some of the county’s most socioeconomically disadvantaged families, was at risk of closure due to staffing challenges and miscommunication around enrollment. Thanks to swift advocacy, transparent dialogue, and a shared dedication to serving our youngest learners, the program will continue to operate with a newly appointed teacher and expanded outreach efforts.
“We are thrilled to continue serving our families and youngest students in Lucerne Valley,” said Peter Livingston, Superintendent of LVUSD. “This is a win for our rural community and a testament to what can happen when we work together. Our families deserve access to quality early education, and we’re grateful to SBCSS for stepping up and helping us make that possible.”
Efforts are already underway to advertise the program, inform families of enrollment opportunities, and recruit substitute staff from within the local community in collaboration with SBCSS. Many residents have expressed interest in joining the preschool team, and SBCSS is actively supporting recruitment and onboarding.
Families interested in enrolling their children can view the State Preschool flyer posted on July 30th on Lucerne Valley USD Facebook page here:

This outcome reflects the power of community voice and the importance of transparency in decision-making. LVUSD remains committed to ensuring every child has access to the education they deserve, starting with a strong foundation in preschool.
