Lucerne Valley Elementary School teacher Kari Berletich and Maintenance & Operations team member Mariah Cox were recognized as Employees of the Month at the February 12th meeting of the Lucerne Valley USD’s Board of Trustees. Superintendent Peter Livingston presented the awards and quoted the comments of each employee’s administration team.

Kari Berletich, Certificated Employee

“Kari Berletich has been a dedicated 2nd grade teacher at LVES for 6 years,” Mr. Livingston said. “Her classroom is a place of curiosity, structure, and hands-on learning, where students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and take pride in their work.

“Kari brings learning to life through engaging, real-world experiences. From hatching chickens in her classroom to leading innovative science projects using hydroponic systems, she provides her students with meaningful opportunities to learn by DOING. All of these experiences spark excitement, deepen understanding, and create lasting memories for her students.

“Her classroom is always organized, welcoming, and thoughtfully structured to support student success. She has also introduced RCA strategies into her daily instruction, and her students have become more confident as a result. In addition to her work during the school day, Kari also supports students beyond the classroom by running after-school tutoring, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to helping every child grow academically. Kari Berletich is a true asset to LVES, and we are grateful for her passion, creativity, and dedication to our students. Congratulations to Kari on being named Employee of the Month!”

Mariah Cox, Classified Employee

“We are proud to recognize Mariah Cox as our Classified Employee of the Month for her outstanding dedication and contributions to the Maintenance and Operations Department,” Mr. Livingston said. “Mariah has served as a substitute in our maintenance department for 2-1/2 years, working alongside a small team of skilled professionals. During that time, she has consistently demonstrated reliability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to step in wherever help is needed. Her versatility is impressive as she has been seen building block walls, weeding, painting, and assisting with remodeling projects throughout the district including this boardroom.

“Colleagues regularly share how valuable Mariah is to the team. Her can-do attitude and joyful spirit are contagious, making her a pleasure to work with. She is confident in her abilities, yet humble enough to ask questions and continue learning. This strong character allows her to adapt quickly, take on new challenges, and contribute meaningfully to every project she supports.

“One contribution that truly stands out is the beautifully hand painted logo behind our Superintendent and Board, a lasting reflection of Mariah’s attention to detail, and pride in our schools as well as her work. Her commitment to excellence is evident in everything she does. Congratulations, Mariah, on being named the Classified Employee of the Month. This recognition is well deserved!”
