Lucerne Valley High School student Emilia Daniels was presented with a special award from the school district on behalf of 33rd District Assemblyman Thurston “Smitty” Smith. She was awarded for her work on improving mental health care for students and for her participation in a Mighty Future Leaders presentation at the Small School Districts’ Association conference in March. The Lucerne Valley Unified School District has purchased a new electric school bus. Using grant funds from the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District, the All-Electric Model Blue Bird T3RE 3904 vehicle was bought from a Colton-based bus sales company for around $400,000. The California Pivotal Practice Award Program was designed in partnership with our education associations to celebrate districts and schools that have completed an online application highlighting an innovative practice that was implemented during the 2020–21 school year, when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
